Rocktober 2007

from Rob Wood - This painting was created right after the Rockies won the National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the Arizona Diamondbacks, early November 2007 and BEFORE the World Series began - Rockies vs. Red Sox.
The brooms near the top represent the Rockies sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies and then the Arizona Diamondbacks to make to the World Series. This was good

Then the Rockies got swept by the Red Sox in the World Series, which was bad!!
Rocktober 2007 lives on in this painting.

Holliday slides headfirst into home and scores run to win the tiebreaker
game against the Padres.

Tulo works his magic at shortstop

Torrealba crushes a home run in a very wet Game 3 of NLCS against Diamondbacks

Jeff Francis works his magic at the mound as pitcher during 2007 season. This image was painted from the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Q. What made you create this painting?
A. I wanted to remember how much fun we had watching the Rockies summer / fall of 2007
Q. Do you still have this painting
A. I ended up selling it after the Rockies lost in the World Series (I wish that I had kept it)
Q. What did you end up selling it for....if you don't mind us asking?
A. Before the World Series start I had offers of over $1000...and once the Rockies were swept by Red Sox in 2007 World Series then all I heard was crickets (offers dried up very quickly)
So I ended up selling it as to a buyer in early December of 2007. He ended up getting all the autographs from all the players shown in the painting. Lets just say the sale price was a bit less than $1000 ;-)
However, since the buyer got all the signatures, he has had offers from others to buy it for well over $1,000 all these years later, which is good to hear.
Q. So who all is shown in the painting?
A. The Rockies were on a good roll. Matt Holliday had stolen home with his now classic head first slide to win the tie break game against the Padres and send the Rockies to the National League Divisional Series.
Q. There are many images on the canvas. What size was the original ?
A. The original painting was 36"x48" so it was a big larger than my standard 24"x36" at the time. I needed the bigger size to fit all the images.
Q. What are all the images represented?
A. Front and center is Holliday slide headfirst into home plate.
